Actor Martin Clunes has candidly shared details about his youth ahead of his latest show featuring Neil Morrissey. The pair, first uniting on the much-loved BBC sitcom Men Behaving Badly from 1994 until 1998, are reuniting for their upcoming series Neil and Martin's Bon Voyage. Nearly three decades since they entertained audiences on Men Behaving Badly, the comical duo is set to grace screens once more with their new project.
Throughout the three instalments, audiences will accompany them on a journey across France, where they will be seen paddling along the Dordogne River, biking around the vineyards in Bordeaux, and delving into subterranean caves. The duo delve into personal discussions during the programme, revealing starkly contrasting upbringings: Martin was educated at a boarding school , whereas Neil was raised in a care environment. In a conversation with Radio Times, Martin reminisced: "Nowadays, people stop and look back and name something that happened to them, and it becomes an almighty obstacle in their path, whereas I just remember getting on with everything.
" He went on to reflect, "My childhood wasn't idyllic, but I didn't have anything to compare it to." Echoing the sentiment with his perspective, Neil noted: "The experiences you have when you're young are always going to fold over into your life later on." The two actors recently graced the couch on BBC's The One Show last month, sharing how much they enjoyed reuniting for the project, reports Gloucestershire Live .
A teaser for the series states: "Having famously starred together as flatmates Tony and Gary in Men Behaving Badly, in this new series, Neil Morrissey will take Martin Clunes on a road trip through France, the country that has become his second home. "From Normandy, through the Alps and to Neil's home and cider apple orchard in the South, and taking in beautiful food, sweeping landscapes and fascinating local traditions, the two friends will reconnect and reminisce on a professional and personal relationship that spans 30 years." Before the series kicks off, Neil expressed his excitement about sharing his love for France with Martin, calling it a 'golden opportunity'.
He joked: "I've fallen in love with this country, its glorious food, its delicious wine, and knowing Martin has an EU passport, I'm fairly certain he'll be relocating here once I've finished with him." Martin, on the other hand, is eager to experience everything Neil has planned for him. He said: "I'm really looking forward to all the sights, sounds, tastes, people and experiences Neil's lined up for me in France.
Most of all I'm looking forward to spending a great deal of time with my old mate Neil. "I've grown to miss more than ever since he's absconded to a country which he claims has the best scenery, food and wine on earth – is he right? I intend to find out by devouring the lot of it and seeing what I can remember afterwards." Neil And Martin's Bon Voyage is available to watch on U&Gold.
You can watch the series on catch-up via the U app on Sky Glass, Sky Stream, and Sky Go..
