Italian Luciano Darderi sprang a surprise on Sunday in the final of the ATP 250 tournament in Marrakesh, beating top seed Tallon Griekspoor 7-6(3), 7-6(4). The 23-year-old now boasts two Tour-level titles after winning in Cordoba last year. “The past months were really difficult for me, but I fought every day for this moment,” said Darderi.

“It is my second title. My first time in Marrakesh, it’s an amazing place. I’m very happy and I have to say thank you to all the Italians here and all the people watching.

Darderi’s serve was key to that run with the final offering up zero breaks of serve and eventually being settled in the Argentina-born player’s favour in two tie-breaks. Comments Related stories Related Topics Luciano Darderi / Tallon Griekspoor Latest on Sportstar.
