TKO Folkestone ABC’s Marne Owen was victorious at the England Boxing National Junior Championship in Wigan. Owen claimed the Cadet title in the under-66kg category last month. Facing an opponent with triple her experience, who was the Tri-Nations champion from last season, she displayed tactical brilliance to get a unanimous points win - becoming TKO Folkestone ABC’s first national champion.
On social media, her club posted: “Marne is our first national champion, beating last season’s Tri-Nations champion via unanimous decision. "Marne has shown incredible levels of determination and put in hours of hard work. “This girl has travelled all around the country to prepare her for this moment - and it has all paid off.
“Marne has a huge future in the sport and we can’t wait for her to build on this. “[A] huge shout out to the club’s members and Marne’s parents, who travelled over 10 hours in total to support. “The club is lucky to have every single one of you.
” It was a triumph that sent Owen to the top of the national ranks. If she continues to build on her skills, Owen could find herself representing England in various European competitions and, potentially, earning a place on the path to Great Britain’s elite boxing squad..
