Who'd thought after the end of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth, India would be the team leading the series 1-0? India didn't have any momentum heading into the series and suffered a 0-3 defeat to New Zealand at home. They lost Shubman Gill due to injury, Rohit Sharma was on paternity leave and the bowling looked too dependent on Jasprit Bumrah. The team was also bowled out for a mere 150 in the first innings and cricket pundits wasted no time in predicting a 5-0 drubbing for the visitors.

What followed, however, was a stunning comeback by the Jasprit Bumrah-led side. The captain led from the front and skittled out the Aussies for 104 in the first innings. The second innings saw Indian batters plunder the fearsome pace trio of Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood as India posted a massive 487-6, setting a target of 534.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was the standout performer for India in the second innings as he tormented the Australians with a brilliant 161. Jaiswal got strong support from KL Rahul (77) and Virat Kohli (100). Jaiswal has been instrumental in India's success, but there were doubts if he'd be able to live up to the expectations in Australia.

He was dismissed for a duck in the first innings but made a dream comeback. Former Australia cricketer Mark Waugh is well aware of the threat that Jaiswal brings to the table and urged the Australian pacers to ruffle up the batter. Waugh wants the likes of Cummins, Starc, and Hazlewood to rattle the batter with short bowling.

'We bowled pretty well most of the game [in Perth], but I did think we lacked a little bit of aggression,' Waugh told News Corp. I would like to see a bit more short stuff, maybe ruffling the feathers of the Indian batsmen. Jaiswal is a tremendous player.

He's a young guy, he's 22. We hardly ruffled him up at all. I think we can be a bit more aggressive at certain times with the ball and body language.

It looked a bit flat at times," he added. Get Latest News Live on Times Now along with Breaking News and Top Headlines from Cricket, Sports and around the world..
