Marina restaurant is a special experience and a great night out

WHEN the Aydo Turkish restaurant announced it was shutting at Brighton Marina many customers were unhappy.

By the time the hot caramel sauce was poured over my chocolate bomb brownie in an impressive presentation of my dessert I had already enjoyed a lovely night and meal. Turkish starters and more sizzling mains had meant my night at the marina was a very filling and tasty one at a venue which had closed but was now open again as a new restaurant. When the Aydo Turkish restaurant announced it was shutting at the Marina earlier this year many customers were unhappy.

One said the food was "unreal and it was by far the best place in the marina in a long time". The good news for those people is that the same venue is open again, now as Tavus. I had not been to Aydo so when I was invited I wanted to see if it was still a venue diners would love.

The interior looks the same as before. Beautiful floral decorations in a huge impressive room that would not look out of place in Las Vegas. If you like places which are done up to impress Tavus is for you.

That same effort goes into the drinks and food, we were soon to find out. The non-alcoholic cocktails looked and tasted amazing, like a party in themselves. The raspberry sour has Lyre’s Amaretti non-alcoholic spirit, fresh raspberries, lemon Juice and vegan foaming bitters.

It was so very refreshing. (Image: Argus) The Free Star with passion fruit, pineapple juice, banana, vanilla syrup and lime juice looked even more impressive. Theatre in a glass.

The salad made of finely chopped tomatoes, parsley with a hint of chilli and dressed with pomegranate sauce was a lovely fresh vegetarian starter and I loved the Sucuk - grilled Turkish beef sausage. For the mains the moussaka was another expertly cooked vegetarian dish while from the meat options we chose to try some classic kebab choices, despite some great steak on view, literally on show for you to choose.

I went for the shish kebab mixed choice with lamb and kofte. I was advised later that those two each went better with chicken but I really enjoyed them alongside each other, great with the bulgur and fresh salad. We did try the chicken shish too and it was gorgeous.

It was one of those meals where you remember that kebabs and Turkish food is not just for the end of the night after a few pints. Then there was that dramatic chocolate bomb dessert. And the lotus cheesecake was wonderful too.

Upon reopening Ciran Yildrim, owner of Tavus, said: "We’re thrilled to be bringing a new level of dining to Brighton Marina with our new venture, Tavus. We aim to create authentic Mediterranean cuisine, which is crafted using carefully selected and locally sourced ingredients. It has been a long journey, but my team and I are incredibly proud to welcome guests to our new restaurant.

” I can firmly recommend this place you will have a lovely meal and experience..
