Marcus Rashford’s form for Aston Villa is increasingly becoming an easy stick to beat Manchester United with but his latest display did warrant praise. Marcus Rashford hit a brace in Villa’s 3-0 victory over Preston North End to send his team to the semi-finals of the FA Cup. Fans thought Rashford found his level, which might be a bit harsh because, at the end of the day, his good form can directly impact club finances in the summer.
In the meantime, the player is not doing any favours to his relationship with the club as his latest comments after his brace can be taken as an indirect dig at Ruben Amorim. Even this was against Championship opposition but nonetheless, it’s something to build upon for the player between now and the end of the season.
Rashford spoke to BBC after the game and said there is a lot more to come from him as he’s still getting into his stride.Making a clear reference to his time at Old Trafford, Rashford said he was still ‘getting fitter’ because he had missed a lot of football before coming here. That’s a clear reference to Amorim freezing him out despite the player being fit to play.
Rashford said: “Step by step I think I can still get fitter. I’ve missed a lot of football before joining up. At the minute my body feels good and I’m injury-free and just enjoying my football.
So, all good for now.“I feel like I’ve slowly been getting fitter and playing better football since I’ve been here. So, it’s obviously nice for a forward to always get goals.
Hopefully, it continues.”Rashford’s Man Utd exclusion was two-wayReading Rashford’s comments, it’s easy to infer a feeling of confusion as to why he was missing out on football when he was fit. That fails to speak the reality that he wasn’t up to the standards Amorim required at the club, and him now doing it at Villa doesn’t excuse the same at United.
Amorim’s treatment of Alejandro Garnacho proves that it was never personal with Rashford and if he put his head down and started working, he wouldn’t have missed any football. Unfortunately, he just didn’t want to anymore for United which is a shame for a boyhood fan effectively living the dream. These comments make it clear that his dream had turned into a nightmare by the time he left.
