Here, the PA news agency takes a statistical look at the England forward’s Old Trafford career. Rashford, who joined United at the age of seven, has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances since breaking into the first team in 2016 but has not played since December 12. – Of those goals, 87 have come in the Premier League – the eighth-highest total for United since the competition’s rebranding, sandwiched between Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (91) and Eric Cantona (64).
– Rashford also has 40 Premier League assists to his name. – Should his United career be over, he will leave with a Premier League record of a goal every 226 minutes and a goal or assist every 155 minutes. From his debut double against Midtjylland in the Europa League in 2016, aged 18, Rashford has tasted some notable highlights with his boyhood club.
– His best season came in 2022-23, with 17 league goals and 30 in all competitions. – That is one of four league seasons in double figures, matching 2019-20 as his best tally, and three times scoring over 20 in all competitions. – Rashford scored in the final against Newcastle as United won the 2022-23 Carabao Cup, and against Celta Vigo as a teenager in May 2017 to secure a place in the Europa League final where United beat Ajax 2-0.
– He has won five major trophies with United – two FA Cups, two League Cups and that Europa League triumph. – Rashford was named Premier League fans’ player of the year at the PFA Awards for the 2022-23 season, when he also won both United’s awards voted for by players and fans. He was the Europa League’s joint top scorer that season with six goals and has won four Premier League player-of-the-month awards, three of them in 2022-23.
It has not all been plain sailing, particularly in recent years. – Rashford followed up his 30-goal season with just eight last term as he frequently fell out of favour under then manager Erik ten Hag. – He has played only 983 minutes in this season’s Premier League and none since December 7’s defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Since Ruben Amorim’s appointment in November he has made just six appearances, and three starts, in all competitions. – Having reached double figures for goals in all competitions five years in a row prior to his penalty shootout miss for England in the European Championship final in 2021, Rashford has done so just once in three completed seasons since. Having been a mainstay of Gareth Southgate’s England reign, Rashford will hope his move to Villa can also resurrect his international fortunes.
– Rashford has 17 goals in 60 England appearances. – Sixteen of those goals came with Southgate as manager, with only Harry Kane (61) and Raheem Sterling (18) scoring more during his reign. – Rashford’s last international appearance came in March 2024 against Brazil, and his last goal against Italy in October 2023.
He was not selected for Euro 2024 and was absent for Southgate’s last 10 matches and all six under caretaker boss Lee Carsley..
