
El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele will accept prisoners with U.S. citizenship sent from the United States, U.
S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Monday. "He has offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals in custody in our country, including those with US citizenship and legal residency," Rubio told reporters after their meeting.
El Salvador will accept deportees of any nationality as well as violent criminals currently incarcerated in the United States. Rubio said that President Nayib Bukele “has agreed to the most unprecedented, extraordinary, extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world. “He’s also offered to do the same for dangerous criminals currently in custody and serving their sentence in the United States even though they’re U.
S. citizens or legal residents.” Rubio and Bukele met in El Salvador on Monday to discuss how the Central American country could help the Trump administration execute its immigration crackdown.
El Salvador is one of five countries that Rubio is slated to visit to discuss President Trump's deportation plans. Rubio will also travel to Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and the Dominican Republic. Rubio left shortly after overseeing a deportation flight with 43 migrants go from Panama to Colombia.
The day before Rubio threatened Panama that the U.S. would act if it did not cut down China's presence in the Panama Canal.
