THE Philippine National Police (PNP) is on heightened alert to ensure the implementation of safety measures during the expected Holy Week exodus. PNP chief General Rommel Marbil held on Monday, April 14, 2025, a command conference attended by police commanders on the ground. The PNP will deploy over 40,000 police personnel for the conduct of security operations during the Holy Week up until after the 2025 midterm elections.
Marbil ordered his men to beef up police visibility in communities as well as the imposition of proactive public safety measures, underscoring the need to monitor and prevent common crimes such as theft and burglary, especially during a time when many families travel for the Holy Week break. “Let us ensure the safety of our people. Let them feel the presence of the police force in checkpoints and chokepoints,” said Marbil, reminding about the continued use of body-worn cameras or alternative recording devices to ensure accountability and security.
The top cop also emphasized the implementation of a gun ban to mitigate potential threats ahead of the 2025 national and local polls. Marbil also reminded commanders to uphold transparency in crime reporting. “Let us be transparent about crimes.
If there is an increase, it's important that we acknowledge it so we can better understand the situation, respond appropriately, and find effective solutions. This is the true essence of public service,” Marbil said. Marbil also called for vigilance as he reminded against election campaigning during the Holy Week, noting that the period becomes a window for electioneering as many people return to their hometowns, which may lead to a surge in political activities.
The Commission on Election (Comelec) earlier reminded candidates that campaign activities are prohibited on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, which were declared regular holidays. Marbil reminded all personnel to remain apolitical, citing recent incidents involving PNP personnel allegedly engaging in partisan activities. “Do not allow yourselves to be used by politicians.
Remain apolitical. We serve the Filipino people -- not political interests,” Marbil said. “The PNP assures the public of its full commitment to maintaining peace and order, particularly during the Holy Week and the election season, through intensified police presence, strategic operations, and professionalism,” he added.
