Winds travelling faster than the motorway speed limit will sweep across swathes of the UK on this weekend. The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning for Scotland , Northern Ireland , and parts of North Wales and Cumbria on Sunday and Monday. Gusts as fast as 80mph could disrupt travel plans, damage property cause power cuts, and even prove deadly due to airborne debris and large waves.
It is expected to last from 3am on Sunday to midday Monday, the Met Office said. Dan Holley, the forecaster’s Deputy Chief Meteorologist, said: ‘A low pressure system could bring strong winds to the north and west on Friday. ‘This combined with high spring tides may result in some coastal impacts, potentially continuing into the weekend on some coasts.
‘Warnings for Friday and later in the weekend have already been issued and will continue to be refined and reviewed in the coming days. ‘It’s likely that Sunday’s wind warning will be updated and refined as confidence increases, so stay up to date with the latest forecast.’ To stay safe, the Met Office urged people to secure loose garden furniture and gather torches and power banks in case of power cuts.
