Four players pushing to return after injury woes

Manchester United could welcome Kobbie Mainoo back from injury as they take on Lyon in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final. Mainoo has been sidelined with a calf injury for two months, but has this week returned to training ahead of the trip to France. It is unlikely he will start, but an involvement off the bench has not been ruled out.

Matthijs de Ligt will also be assessed ahead of the game after missing the drab Manchester draw draw Man City with an ankle injury. His returned would come at an ideal time with Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Jonny Evans ruled out and Harry Maguire working his way back to full match fitness. Luke Shaw is also available, but is unlikely to dislodge Patrick Dorgu at left-back, while Mason Mount was another rare sighting at the weekend after his own lengthy injury woes.

Mount is also unlikely to start in France, but the frustrating form of Alejandro Garnacho will be a concern for manager Ruben Amorim. It’s a toss up between Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, though the latter started the derby so the former could come in. Manchester United predicted XI: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Yoro; Dalot, Ugarte, Casemiro, Dorgu; Fernandes, Garnacho; Zirkzee Injured: Martinez, Amad, Shaw, Heaven, Evans Doubts: De Ligt, Mainoo Time and date: 8pm BST on Thursday, April 10, 2025 Venue: Groupama Stadium How to watch: TNT Sport.
