Bruno Fernandes netted a hat-trick in Manchester United's 4-1 Europa League win over Real Sociedad. Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim described Bruno Fernandes as the “perfect" captain on Thursday after his hat-trick sealed a 4-1 Europa League win over Real Sociedad but said the midfielder must also show some trust in his teammates. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Spain, United fell behind at Old Trafford to Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty before Fernandes scored three goals, twice from the spot, to put the hosts in the driver’s seat.

Fellow Portuguese international Diogo Dalot added a fourth in stoppage time to seal a 5-2 win on aggregate and send United into the quarter-finals. “When we need it, (Fernandes) is always there," Amorim said. “He can bring the ball forward.

He can score goals. He is a perfect captain for our team and we need to help him win titles." However, Amorim noted Fernandes was sometimes guilty of disrupting United’s shape by drifting out of position in search of the ball.

“We know that sometimes he is frustrated," Amorim added. “We know he wants to win so badly and when things are not going well, he is changing position and going after the ball. “Sometimes he needs to trust his teammates.

" Amorim ‘Proud’ Of Dorgu’s Honesty Amorim praised the sportsmanship of Patrick Dorgu after the Danish full-back told the referee he had made a mistake in awarding the Red Devils a spot-kick. The first three goals of the night came from the spot as Bruno Fernandes struck twice to cancel out Mikel Oyarzabal’s opener. United were then awarded a third penalty by Frenchman Benoit Bastien when Dorgu went down inside the area.

However, the referee reversed his initial call without consulting VAR as Dorgu reportedly told Bastien he did not think it was a penalty. “It depends," said Amorim when asked if he supported Dorgu’s actions. “It is the right thing to do.

Quite proud of him but if it is 0-0 or we are losing, (I don’t know) if I have the same response." Dorgu, a January signing from Lecce, is United’s only new recruit since Amorim took charge in November. The 20-year-old was a constant menace down the left for Amorim’s men as he also won United’s second penalty and was fouled for a red card shown to Jon Aramburu early in the second half.

“He did a great performance," added Amorim. “He’s improving in that position.".
