Man who killed his mother and fake taxi driver among those jailed in November

Men sentenced to jail terms this month after crimes in Leicestershire included a young man who stabbed his own mother while high on drugs. Gregor Bauld was jailed for life with a minimum of 13 years and eight months, which will be spent in a secure hospital unless he is ever deemed fit to move to a prison. Others sentenced in November included a fake taxi driver who tried to rape a drunken woman in Leicester city centre and two men who attacked another young man, Codie Bambrick.

And four De Montfort University students are beginning long jail terms after an attack on a teenager in Leicester's West End. All the biggest cases from the past 30 days are featured here. See more details on them and others below.

Schizophrenic Gregor Bauld had grabbed a kitchen knife and chased after Tina Bauld who he would later describe to police as a paedophile and an alien . Bauld was found to be competent to stand trial for murder at Leicester Crown Court but he was found not guilty of murder due to his mental state.

He had previously pleaded guilty to Tina's manslaughter. During the two-week trial in October, the jury saw CCTV of Bauld chasing 55-year-old Tina out of their home in Burbage's The Coppice, near Hinckley , and stabbing her multiple times. She died in the arms of her husband Tom.

Blood from Bauld showed signs of LSD, ketamine, cannabis and a prescription sedative. Bauld, who has been detained at a secure hospital since the incident, which happened on Sunday, March 3, was given a 'hybrid order' Bauld has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 13 years and eight months in custody , but Bauld will stay in a secure hospital, with security similar to a prison, for now. If clinicians decided he has recovered and no longer needed treatment he could be transferred to a prison until the minimum term is up.

Once the minimum term is over, he can only be released from prison if a parole board believes he's safe for release. Read the full story here Damian Mould An armed robber left a man in hospital with “significant” injuries after attacking him with a hammer. Damian Mould carried out the attack at a store in Oakthorpe near Ashby before stealing cash and a bottle of alcohol.

The victim, in his 60s, was left with head injuries following the incident on Saturday, January 13, this year, and was admitted to hospital for treatment where he remained for around two weeks before being discharged. Mould, 38, was arrested three days later after he was found inside a business premises in Lower Church Street, Ashby, following a report of an intruder alarm going off. At the time of committing both offences, Mould had been released on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of robbery at a garage in Ashby's Nottingham Road on Wednesday, November 1, last year.

He was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment with a three-year licence extension. Read the full story here Destiny Ojo, Habib Lawal, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero Four university students used knives, a baseball bat and a crutch in a Leicester fight in which a teenager was stabbed four times. The four men were students at De Montfort University , in Leicester, when the incident happened, at around 3am on Thursday, November, 4, 2021.

Destiny Ojo, Habib Lawal, Ridwanulahi Raheem, and Joshua Davies-Ero had been out together in Leicester city centre when they came across another group in New Park Street, off Braunstone Gate, in the city's West End. An argument took place between the groups, before a "large fight" broke out, Leicestershire Police said. CCTV footage showed the four defendants arming themselves with weapons : Davies-Ero was seen to be carrying a crutch; Ojo was seen with a baseball bat; and Lawal was carrying what was believed to be a knife.

Raheem was also later seen carrying a large knife, the force said. As the fighting continued, an 18-year-old man who was in the other group and had been involved in the fighting, was thrown to the ground and attacked. He suffered four stab wounds to his body.

He was taken to hospital for treatment, and later being discharged. The four suspects left the scene before they could be arrested. Read the full story here Lurrell Gittens and Reegan Standley-Hunter Lurrell Gittens, 17, was found guilty of Codie Bambrick's murder following a trial at Leicester Crown Court, along with one count of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

Reegan Standley-Hunter, 18, was found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm. Gittens was sentenced to serve life in prison, with a minimum term of 22 years, while Standley-Hunter was sentenced to serve eight years in a Young Offenders Institution. Police were called to Glazebrook Road just before 1.

15pm on May 22 this year following a report that a fight had taken place and a man had been stabbed. When officers arrived at the scene with colleagues from the East Midlands Ambulance Service, they found Codie outside a property but he was pronounced dead a short time later. Codie had been stabbed by Lurrell Gittens.

Standley-Hunter and Gittens then left the scene but were found by police in New Parks Boulevard at around 1.40pm and arrested. After a 14-day trial at Leicester Crown Court both Standley-Hunter and Gittens were found guilty.

Read the full story here Ghulan Mohammed A fake taxi driver who picked up a drunken woman who was trying to get home sexually abused and tried to rape her. Ghulan Mohammed, 36, had been driving around Leicester city centre looking for a prostitute. Mohammed saw a woman who was "severely incapacitated" and could not speak much English, Leicester Crown Court was told at a hearing in July.

He persuaded her to get into his car, and then drove to a series of remote locations, including a hotel car park, where he sexually assaulted her and tried to rape her, before returning her to Leicester city centre . The woman tried to escape when Mohammed, of Princess Street, in Burton on Trent, stopped at a petrol station and she attempted to seek help from staff. But the ordeal only ended after her friends, who were able to track her phone, found her with Mohammed in his car, muddy, partly undressed and covered in bruises, and having had her bank cards stolen by the attacker.

Mohammed, who had no trousers on, then followed the woman as her friends led her away, trying to persuade her to get back in his car. After he was arrested, Mohammed denied that anything had happened without the woman's consent. It was only after a week-long trial at Leicester Crown Court that he was convicted by a jury of four sexual assaults and one count of attempted rape.

He was also found guilty of theft and four counts of fraud for stealing her bank card and using them during and after the lengthy ordeal. Mohammed was today sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to seven years and three months in jail. Read the full story here.
