A 31-year-old from Lelystad who still had to serve two more years in prison for causing a deadly accident has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Netherlands has asked for his extradition. The man caused a serious accident in 2019 in Lelystad.
A 67-year-old man and his four-year-old grandson lost their lives in the accident. The man’s partner and the boy’s grandma were severely injured. The man was driving two times as fast as the speeding limit.
After an appeal, he was sentenced to two years in prison, a sentence that was confirmed by the Supreme Court early last year, but the man was untraceable. The FAST team (Fugitive Active Search Team) managed to trace him, and on December 20 last year, he was arrested in the UAE. He now has to serve 717 days of his sentence.
