A man woke up in the middle of the night on Wednesday to a confusing and slightly alarming furry object warming his feet—a cat that did not belong to him. Questions quickly whirled around Niklas Cyris's mind when he woke to a cat warming up his feet while he slept. While that wouldn't be uncommon for cat owners, Cyris does not have a cat.

He told Newsweek that his initial thoughts were, "What the...

I don't own a cat...

? Wait...

Yeah no. I don't own a cat..

.Who are you?" He said he stared at the cat for about a minute or two, trying to determine if he was still dreaming. "I'd never seen this cat before, but it turns out he belongs to my neighbors and has been living with them for a few weeks now," Cyris said.

His neighbors recently started letting out their 1-year-old Chartreux cat named Lyusya. That night, Lyusya thought he'd be a friendly neighbor and introduce himself to Cyris. It wasn't necessarily good timing since Cyris was fast asleep, but the cat saw a tiny gap between his blackout blind and the window sill and took his chance.

Lyusya made himself right at home. He hopped up on the bed, snuggling up against Cyris's feet. Cyris doesn't normally keep the window open overnight.

That night, however, was humid, so he decided to crack it open to get fresh air from the courtyard. He quickly learned that might not have been his best decision, but thankfully, he didn't mind the unexpected company. "Since then, I've been keeping my kitchen window open during the day, at least until the snow and freezing temperatures arrive," he said.

"Lyusya has come by to visit a few times since that first night." Cyris, known on Reddit as u/LordLightsaber621, shared his story on the subreddit channel r/cats, where it amassed over 23,000 upvotes and 573 comments. Like Cyris, people were shocked the cat waltzed inside like he'd been there a million times before.

"The expression on this lovely kitty's face is they look like they were out late at the catnip bar and have realized they stumbled into the wrong house and bed," joked one Redditor. Some were all for the surprise, calling it the "feet warmer distribution system." "I mean, it's a delightful cat.

I'd keep my kitchen window open," commented another Reddit user. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share? Send them to [email protected] with some details about your best friend and they could appear in our Pet of the Week lineup.
