Manchester United won’t receive a loan fee from Real Betis in exchange for Antony ’s services due to the amount of games the winger has now played for the Spanish club. The Red Devils shipped the Brazilian off to Betis in January after he fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford. United signed Antony from Ajax for £81million in the summer of 2022 as the player followed manager Erik ten Hag from Holland to England.

But he flattered to deceive in the Premier League and was often called out for his petulant behaviour, with Gary Neville taking aim at the star following a clash between United and Manchester City in October 2023. Antony contributed just 12 goals and five assists in 96 appearances for United ahead of his departure to Spain but is due to return to the club at the end of the campaign. Antony’s career has taken an upturn in fortunes in Spain, and the 25-year-old has been a key part of the Betis side.

He has featured in 15 games for Betis under former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini and has racked up four goals and four assists during those appearances. According to ABC Sevilla , United inserted a clause into the loan deal that compelled Betis to pay the Red Devils a penalty fee of as much as £480,000 if he didn’t play enough games. The clause was added to ensure the star developed at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, with the threshold set at 15 games.

And Pellegrini’s desire to select Antony means the 13-time Premier League champions are not entitled to receive a fee. Antony is said to be keen to stay at Betis beyond the end of the season, with United set to make a decision about his future in the summer. And Betis will soon engage in conversations with the English team about extending the loan deal.

“I'm very happy here, but it's still too early to decide,” Antony explained at the start of April as he spoke about life in Spain. And he told DAZN: “I found myself, I needed to find myself, I needed to be happy, I needed my family to be happy too. “Every day that goes by, I see that it's the best decision I've made.

I am enjoying the city, the club, every day. [Seville] reminds me a lot of things from Brazil - the sun, the food, everything. The people are also very warm.

I'm very happy and that's important for us as Brazilians.”.
