SEREMBAN: A man sustained serious injuries after a parang attack incident at a shopping centre here last night.The attack, which occurred at 7pm, was captured by the premises' closed-circuit television (CCTV) system and has since gone viral on social media. The footage shows a man brazenly hacking at the victim in a crowded area.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the incident was believed to be linked to elements of gangsterism and revenge."The police received information about a parang assault involving a 40-year-old male victim at 8.15pm.
The case has since gone viral online."Initial investigations revealed that the incident took place inside the shopping centre while the victim was resting alone and smoking," he said in a statement today.Hatta said the attack began when the victim was startled by a group of men running up from the escalator on the lower level, one of whom was wielding a parang.
The victim, unable to escape in time, was slashed multiple times. Despite his injuries, he managed to get up and flee, reportedly assisted by a friend who witnessed the attack."The victim was rushed to hospital for treatment.
He sustained injuries to both arms, his back, and his right leg, but is reported to be in stable condition," he said.The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.Police believe the attack was driven by revenge and is linked to gangster activity.
