A spokesperson for the Ottawa Paramedic Service said the emergency was reported at about 2:30 p.
m. on April 3, with the kayaker in the river at a location north of Billings Bridge and near the Riverside campus of The Ottawa Hospital. An Ottawa Fire Services water rescue crew pulled the unidentified elderly man from the river, and paramedics then transported him to hospital for treatment of severe hypothermia.
