Man held for opening fire at couple over financial dispute

Times News Network Ludhiana: A day after a man opened fire at a couple and left them injured in Mullanpur town, Ludhiana rural police on Saturday arrested the accused. Police said that the accused attacked the couple over a financial dispute. The arrested accused has been identified Surinder Singh Chhinda of Hissowal village, a property dealer.

Late on Friday evening, the accused allegedly opened fire at Gudiya Rani and her husband, Raj Kumar Yadav of Prem Nagar in Mullanpur. The couple, who were attacked at the house/grocery shop, sustained bullet injuries. Police said that after the incident, the accused was booked under Section 109 of BNS (Attempt to murder) and Arms Act.



He was arrested on Saturday and the weapon he used was also recovered. Police said that the accused, who was allegedly drunk, fired at the couple over a monetary dispute of around Rs 70,000 to Rs 75,000. The resident of Prem Nagar, Mullanpur, knew the couple for a long time.

Police said that the victims are undergoing treatment in CMCH, Ludhiana. The weapon used in the crime was a licensed one. The accused does not have previous criminal record.

Meanwhile, Gudiya Rani claimed that the accused had given Rs 10,000 to someone and she was the guarantor. She added that the person returned some of the money to Chhinda and some balance was left. When he failed to return the money, he came to the shop and misbehaved with her, she said, adding that she called her husband, after which the accused opened fire at them.
