Man gets probation for assaulting officer

A Cordova man recently pleaded guilty to first-offense failure to stop for blue lights and assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest.

A Cordova man recently pleaded guilty to first-offense failure to stop for blue lights and assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest. Paul Alexander Wade, 38, of 3244 Cordova Road, entered his plea before Circuit Judge Roger M. Young Sr.

during a recent term of court held at the Orangeburg County Courthouse. Young sentenced Wade to 30 months in prison, giving him credit for serving 262 days in jail. Wade was charged with the following offenses, but they were dismissed: malicious injury to personal property valued $2,000 or less and first-offense driving under suspension license not suspended for driving under the influence.



In other recent pleas at the Orangeburg County Courthouse: ■„ Randall Labrond Taylor, 57, of 416 Ellis Avenue, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest. Young sentenced him to one year in prison. Taylor already spent 102 days in jail, so his term was suspended to probation for six months.

Taylor faced the following charges, but they were dismissed: threatening the life of a public official, trespassing and public disorderly conduct. „■ Eugene Alexander Summers, 23, of 1920 Pinebrook Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-offense distribution of methamphetamine. Young sentenced him to one year in prison.

He already served 30 days in jail, so his term was suspended to probation for six months. Summers was charged with first-offense possession with intent to distribute a scheduled drug, but the charge was dismissed. ■„ Aaron James Tinker, 55, of 4014 Creekmoor Drive, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence.

Young sentenced him to prison for one year, suspended to probation for one year. Tinker is required to complete a domestic violence intervention program. „ Matthew Warren Ulmer, 33, of 3732 Homestead Road, Bowman, pleaded guilty to threatening the life of a public official and first-offense failure to stop for blue lights.

Young sentenced him to prison for three years, suspended to probation for two years. Ulmer already served 135 days in jail. Young ordered Ulmer to take medication as prescribed.

Ulmer was charged with the following offenses, but they were dismissed: reckless driving and third-degree assault and battery. ■„ Lanelson O. Utsey, 36, of 101 Eastward Circle, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession with intent to distribute a scheduled drug.

Young sentenced him to prison for one year. Utsey was given credit for spending 128 days in jail. Utsey was charged with the following offenses, but they were dismissed: possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, unlawful carrying of a pistol and criminal conspiracy.

„■ Marquel Wilkins, 27, of 223 Tecza Drive, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to second-degree domestic violence. Young sentenced him to prison for three years, suspended to probation for one year. „ Gene Nathan Williams, 25, of 3015 Burgess Street, Augusta, Georgia, pleaded guilty to non-violent second-degree burglary and third-degree domestic violence.

Young sentenced Williams under the Youthful Offender Act not to exceed six years, suspended to probation for five years. Williams is required to pay restitution. He was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance, but that charge was dismissed.

■„ George Anthony Williams II, 24, of 5504 Norwich Road, Adams Run, pleaded guilty to unlawful carrying of a pistol. Williams didn't have to serve any jail time because he'd already served one day there. „■ Lorenzo Brian Williams, 50, of 645 Anderson Street, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence, although he was originally charged with domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Young sentenced him to prison for five years, suspended to probation for 18 months. Williams already served 75 days in jail. Williams faced the following charges, but they were dismissed: first-offense possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of certain crimes and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

■„ Ashley Nicole Yessler, 25, of 404 Deerbrook Lane, Orangeburg, pleaded guilty to first-offense possession of a narcotic drug. Young sentenced her under the Youthful Offender Act not to exceed two years, suspended to probation for six months. Yessler got credit for serving one day in jail.
