Man gets life imprisonment, 20K fine for his co-worker’s murder

Times News Network Ludhiana: A local court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his co-worker. The court of sessions judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict. In default of payment of fine, he will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for one year.

Dakha police booked the accused, Manga Singh , on May 23, 2020. The complainant, Harinder Singh of Mullanpur Dakha, told the police that Parkash of UP and Manga Singh worked in his “taal,” (facility where green fodder is shredded for cattle). At about 10.



30pm on May 22, 2020, he went to the taal to serve food to the workers with his friend, Ravinder Singh and found Manga Singh attacking Parkash with a stick and abusing him. When they intervened, Manga Singh escaped. However, Parkash died of serious head injuries.

The complainant alleged that Manga Singh attacked Parkash over a dispute at work. Manga Singh was arrested. During trial of the case, the accused pleaded false implication.

The defence counsel contended that the accused had been framed because of a salary dispute he had with the complainant. The court did not find merit in the argument and maintained that two persons had witnessed the attack on Parkash, which they had also described in detail. Counsel for the accused contended that when the complainant, Harinder Singh, was examined, the alleged murder weapon was not produced in court.

The court held that this alone was not fatal to the case of the prosecution.
