Pune: A man from Kaij in Beed was arrested pertaining to an online share trading fraud registered with the Pimpri Chinchwad police last month. The prime suspect has been identified and is based in Dubai. The cyber police of Pimpri Chinchwad arrested Balasaheb Choure(32), from Kaij in Beed.
In March, a 66-year-old retired official of a public sector company from Sangvi was duped of Rs 2.50 crore by online fraudsters, who promised him handsome returns by investing in the online trade of stocks. A probe by the Pimpri Chinchwad police revealed that Choure visited Dubai around 6 months ago and met his handler.
His handler is from Maharashtra, but has been staying in Dubai for the past three years. Police said, the handler has been operating the racket of online share frauds with a partner from Pakistan. After registering the case, a police team headed by deputy commissioner of police Sandeep Doiphode, senior inspector Ravikiran Nale, assistant inspector Pravin Swami and sub inspectors Sagar Poman and Vidya Patil traced the money trail.
It was established that the money went to many accounts and police then focused on a bank account operational from Beed. The police team detained and questioned the bank account owner. During the questioning, the account owner told the police that Choure was operating his account on commission.
Following this, Choure was detained and questioned. Choure revealed that he was urging people from Beed and neighbouring districts to give him credentials of their bank accounts in exchange for a minor commission. Nale said, Choure previously ran a pharmacy shop in Kaij.
He closed it to focus on operating mule bank accounts. He later found that another person, originally from Nepal, was also handling the mule accounts. This Nepal national transferred money from these accounts to a cryptocurrency exchange and bought cryptocurrencies.
He then transferred these cryptocurrencies to the Dubai-based handler..
