Man caught with 75kg ganja gets 12-year jail term

Chennai: A city court found a ganja peddler , Ponnankan guilty of smuggling 75kg of ganja in 2017 and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 12 years. He must also pay a fine of 1 lakh. The Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB) in Dindigul arrested two men — Ponnankan and Jayapas — on Sept 13, 2017, at Begumpur junction near Batalakundu.

They were caught while attempting to smuggle 75kg of weed. After police filed a charge sheet, the case was brought to trial and the special judge for NDPS cases convicted Ponnankan for drug trafficking . Jeyapas was acquitted of all charges on April 9.
