Surat: The Varachha police registered a case against a man for allegedly abetting his wife's suicide by harassing her and demanding dowry. The accused, Jeetendra Kushwaha, allegedly harassed his 20-year-old wife, Neetu, for Rs 5 lakh and a cruiser bike, pushing her to take the extreme step just five months after their marriage. Neetu married Jeetendra and moved to his native village in Madhya Pradesh this year.
By Oct 2024, the couple relocated to Surat, where they rented a house in the Jawaharnagar area. Jeetendra began working in a textile unit. On Dec 4, Neetu visited her brother Sanju and narrated the harassment she endured from her husband, including demands for dowry and physical abuse.
The following day, Sanju received a call from their father in MP. He informed him about Jeetendra's demands. Before Sanju could check on Neetu, he was informed at his workplace about a quarrel between Neetu and Jeetendra.
Neetu hanged herself from the ceiling fan. By the time Sanju arrived at the hospital, his sister passed away. Stay updated with the latest news on Times of India .
