Surat: Kapodra police nabbed a 26-year-old man for allegedly using fake stamp of Varachha MLA Kumar Kanani . The accused, Dipak Patnaik , allegedly used the fake stamp for corrections in Aadhaar, PAN, and other documents. Patnaik got the stamps prepared in Sambalpur, Odisha.
Kapodra police booked Patnaik for forgery. Patnaik owned a shop for Aadhaar and PAN card assistance near Shanidev temple. Based on a tip-off, police raided his shop and found three stamps with MLA Kumar Kanani's name.
Police also seized Aadhaar and PAN card issuance and correction forms. Patnaik told police that he used the fake stamps on fake letters of Kanani to get the Aadhaar and PAN corrections. As there are many people from other states in Surat, he charged a big amount from them to get their cards corrected.
He uploaded the letters signed with fake stamps on govt websites. Police seized three stamps, printers, computers, and other stationery and arrested Patnaik..
