Surat: Sachin GIDC police have arrested an alleged extortionist, Sushant Tripathi , for sending emails to various government departments against two industrialists. The accused used the names of different organizations and trade unions to intimidate the industrialists and extort money. Police have registered two FIRs against him and taken him into custody.
According to reports, Tripathi posed as a leader of the All India Forward Bloc Trade Union and sent letters to multiple government agencies under the name of Padamacharan Raval. In his letter, he falsely claimed that a blast had occurred at the complainant's company, Minakshi Fashion , injuring a labourer named Subodh. He also alleged several irregularities within the company.
Acting on these claims, government officials visited the company, only to find that the allegations were baseless. On Nov 25, 2024, Tripathi, this time posing as Chakradhar Pandey from the Towards Socialism organization, again mailed complaints against the company. He later called the owner, brandished a sharp-edged weapon, and demanded ₹1 lakh as extortion.
Out of fear, the owner gave him ₹40,000, but Tripathi kept demanding the remaining ₹60,000. Using a similar tactic, Tripathi targeted another company, Sankalp Mill of Sachin GIDC, posing as a leader of ‘Dakshin Gujarat Kamdar Parishad' and ‘Subhash Chandra Bose Foundation.' He demanded ₹1 lakh while threatening a company official with a knife.
The official initially paid ₹50,000 but later, as Tripathi persisted with his demands, he approached the Sachin GIDC police, who then booked the accused. Sachin GIDC police inspector K.A.
Gohil told TOI: "Sushant is a native of Odisha and was engaged in supplying labourers to various companies. When he learned about the complaints against him, he switched off his phone and went into hiding. During our investigation, we discovered that he is a history-sheeter with similar offences registered against him at Pandesara, Athwalines, and Kadodara police stations.
We are now investigating whether he has extorted money from other industrialists in Sachin GIDC as well.".
