Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was attacked and injured by a Rottweiler in Gamston metres from a primary school. Austen Kime said that he was on a lunchtime walk with his partner at around 2.30pm on February 27 near Stockgill Close, Gamston when the dog jumped up towards him.

The 28-year-old turned away and shielded his face with his arm and the dog bit him. Because he was wearing a thick jacket, the dog’s teeth did not puncture his skin. However, he suffered a crush wound and soft muscle tissue swelling due to the strength of the dog’s jaw.

Austen, who used to be employed in the Army and now works as a trade salesman, was out of work for three days due to his injury and had to receive a tetanus injection and multiple days of antibiotics treatment. He said the man did not have control of his dog and was ‘not apologetic’. He voiced his concerns about spotting the dog being walked in the local area without a halter lead after the incident.

Austen said that nearly two weeks after the incident, as of the afternoon of March 12, the police hadn't take a statement from him. A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: "Officers attended and located the owner of the dog and an investigation is now underway. Officers have been in contact with the victim and are arranging to take a full statement from him".

Austen's partner Irene Bisoni, 28, who works as a journalist, said she felt terrified following the incident and was leaving the house less. “This is infuriating as we should be able to enjoy a walk without any fear”, she said. “We always felt reasonably safe around here but, after the attack, we are way more on edge”, she said.

"I'm also scared that this is going to happen again, and with a worse outcome.”. The Nottinghamshire Police spokesman added: “We completely understand how distressing this incident will have been for the victim and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
