A man accused of stealing drugs was hit on the head with a TV and knocked unconscious during an assault in East Kilbride. Zeshan Syed, 39, admitted that he and unnamed other individuals attacked a man in Westwood Square and Seymour Green last November. Syed, who was on bail at the time, also admitted punching, kicking and threatening a second man.
Allegations that Syed was concerned in the supply of cocaine, amphetamine and diazepam were dropped. His not guilty plea to a charge that he tried to evade justice by warning a man and his family not to report the assault to the police was accepted. Syed was jailed for 26 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court, backdated as he has been in custody since November 30.
At the same court in 2022 he was handed a 22-month prison sentence for possession of a machete. On that occasion Syed admitted arming himself with the blade after unwelcome visitors tried to smash through his front door in Ardochrig, East Kilbride. He also admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards police officers after his arrest.
The court heard Syed tried to barricade himself in his house as two would-be intruders used a piece of wood in a bid to break the door down. He then emerged with a machete and a chase ensued, but the men fled and were not traced. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
