Mallikarjun Kharge dissolves state unit in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday dissolved the entire Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), including district and block units. This move aims to restructure the state unit following factionalism and internal discord evident in the recent Rajya Sabha elections. Kharge (File photo) NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday dissolved the entire Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) unit in Himanchal Pradesh, along with the district and block units, effective immediately. This decision is part of the party's plan to restructure its Himachal Pradesh unit. Notably, this is the first major change in the PCC since the Congress assumed power in the hill state.

Pratibha Singh , the outgoing president of the Himachal Pradesh Congress, has already joined the Congress Working Committee (CWC), the party's highest decision-making body. Singh, who is the wife of former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, was appointed state Congress chief in 2022. In an official communication, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal confirmed the decision, saying, "Congress president has approved the proposal to dissolve the entire state unit of the PCC, along with the district presidents and Block Congress Committees of the Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee , with immediate effect.
