Malaysian men and women storm into Sea finals

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian men and women’s teams battled their way into the finals at the South East Asia (Sea) Sevens Rugby tournament in Singapore today.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian men and women's teams battled their way into the finals at the South East Asia (Sea) Sevens Rugby tournament in Singapore today. The men will face Thailand in the final while the women will take on Singapore tomorrow. The Malaysian men routed Indonesia 31-0 and the Philippines 26-0 to top Group A.

Under the competition format, there are no semi-finals. National men's coach Nik Safuan Ismade Nik Man said his players played technically well in both their matches. "We did not give away any points to our opponents.



For the final we need to be physically and mentally prepared to face Thailand." In the women's division, Malaysia lost their opening match 28-5 to Singapore but bounced back to defeat Indonesia 15-5 and Thailand 17-12 in extra time. National assistant coach Nazhim Shahruddin said: "We hope our players can recover well to put up a strong challenge against Singapore in the final to return with the gold.
