In a significant move, Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth of Bihar’s Education Department ordered departmental action against five District Education Officers (DEOs) for failing to ensure timely payment of salaries and honorariums. The affected districts include Banka, Jamui, Patna, Saharsa, and Siwan. A letter from the Education Department’s Additional Secretary, Sanjay Kumar, was addressed to the Additional Secretary of the Director General Administration, recommending action against the DEOs.

The letter emphasised that consistent instructions had been issued requiring that all district employees receive their salaries and honorariums in the first week of each month. The issue was highlighted during a video conference on October 8, where it was noted that payments for September were still pending in several districts. DEOs were instructed to rectify this by October 9.

However, during a follow-up meeting on October 15, it was discovered that salary payments for employees in these districts remained unresolved. The letter specified which payments were delayed, including honorariums for various personnel such as the Block Program Management Unit (BPMU) in Banka, Aadhar operators in Jamui, Patna, and Siwan, as well as multiple positions in Saharsa. The correspondence clearly holds the district education officers accountable for the delayed payments despite repeated reminders.

Consequently, the recommendation has been made for departmental action against these officials..
