We grew up in an era where we got all our information from magazines which earnestly told us about the various options to deal with menstrual bleeding, including tampons. Which led to us wondering whether we risked death if we chose to go swimming on our period due to the information overload about how using a tampon could release enough bacteria to enter our bloodstream and kill us.
