Maiden Police Chief Tracy Ledford was named town manager last week. Ledford was officially appointed to the position during a town council meeting on Monday. Ledford was the Maiden police chief since 2010, the town said in a news release.
Ledford said it was emotional putting his police uniform on for the last time on Wednesday. Ledford spent around 30 years in law enforcement until August. That’s when Ledford was appointed as the interim town manager, the town said.
Ledford took over when former Maiden Town Manager Todd Herms became the manager of Alexander County. Ledford spent his law enforcement career with the town of Maiden. He started in 1994, the town said.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity that has been provided to me by the mayor and town council,” Ledford said. “I’m humbled in the fact that they would have enough confidence in me to continue being part of such a great team at the town of Maiden.” Ledford makes a yearly salary of $148,800, Maiden Public Information Officer Anna Hughey said.
“(Ledford’s) new role is a testament to his enduring dedication and service to the town,” the release said. “Mayor Max Bumgarner Jr. expressed confidence in Ledford's capacity to collaborate effectively with the town council, staff, and residents, emphasizing that his appointment will contribute to maintaining and enhancing Maiden as a community of pride for its residents.

Bumgarner thanked Anthony Starr and the Western Piedmont Council of Governments for their help in searching for a town manager.
