Pune: State president of NCP (SCP) Jayant Patil on Monday said the Mahayuti govt was short-sighted and should be ousted. He said the BJP had lost credibility nationally after forming alliances with Shiv Sena and NCP in the state. The NCP (SCP) leader said, "People accepted the BJP's alliance with Eknath Shinde 's Sena, but when it tied up with Ajit Pawar-led NCP, it lost credibility across the country.

A recent survey also shows that if it stays with its alliance partners any longer, it will affect the party adversely." Patil was invited by Pune Union of Working Journalists to talk on 'Maharashtra’s Vision 2050'. The former finance minister, who spoke about his vision for the state's development, criticised the current Mahayuti govt over its policies.

He said, "Maharashtra once led the country. Its growth was better than all other states. Congress govts in the state focused on employment generation and it became an investment-friendly state.

However, the state’s current financial condition is worrisome. The debt-GDP ratio is at an all-time high. Many govt schemes are not working as funds are being diverted to popular schemes.

" Patil said the current govt lacked the vision to plan for long-term growth of the state. "Their leaders only think about the next election and they announce schemes to win it. Govt’s short-sightedness has hampered the state’s progress.

It must be ousted," the NCP (SCP) state president added. On the splits in the NCP and Shiv Sena and the factions joining the BJP to form a Mahayuti govt, Patil said that their leaders’ credibility has been lost. "Nowhere in the country have we witnessed such cheap politics.

Nobody can be sure which party the politician will defect to after winning the election. It has also adversely affected the bureaucracy. We have a challenge to improve its functioning and lift the morale of the police department," Patil said.

He added that some politicians are getting away with inflammatory statements without realizing that such comments harm social harmony which discourages investors. “If we come to power, our priority would be to maintain strict law and order and restore social harmony to make the state investment-friendly," Patil said.
