Ahead of the voting for the 2024 Assembly election in Maharashtra, workers of the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) on Tuesday, November 19, gheraoed BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde at a Virar hotel in Palghar district and accused him of distributing cash to woo voters. The BVA workers claimed that the senior BJP leader was caught red-handed with cash. They have alleged that a bag with Tawde contained a diary that included references to the distribution of ₹15 crore, The Indian Express reported.
BVA's Hitendra Thakur, the sitting MLA from Vasai-Virar, alleged the BJP leader arrived at the hotel with ₹5 crore cash. At the hotel, Hitendra Thakur’s son and incumbent Nalasopara MLA Kshitij Thakur reportedly snatched the dairy and even questioned Tawde's presence in Virar after poll campaigning officially came to an end on Monday evening. Further, they even raised questions about the non-functional CCTV cameras at the hotel.
Kshitij Thakur said the authorities should take action against the hotel as well. Sharing a video of the incident on X, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said the work that should have been done by the Election Commission was done by Thakurs.

Tawde said that a meeting of MLAs of Nalasopara was underway and they were discussing the Model Code of Conduct for the day of voting, among other things. “I went there to tell them about it. The workers of the party (BVA), Appa Thakur and Kshitij thought that we were distributing money.
Let the Election Commission and police inquire, let them get CCTV footage. I have been in the party for 40 years. Appa Thakur and Kshitij know me, and the entire party knows me.
..Still, I believe that the Election Commission should conduct an impartial investigation," he said.
