Prayagraj : Ahead of Maha Kumbh 2025 , authorities are implementing comprehensive telecommunications upgrades to accommodate the massive influx of visitors. The focus is on establishing robust communication networks to ensure security, traffic control and crowd management. "Work is being done to provide the best network facility to all.

For this, work has started by talking to telecom companies. This Maha Kumbh, the devotees will get relief from the problem of call drops ," said Kumbh Mela Adhikari, Vijay Kiran Anand. He said the district is preparing for significant network challenges due to the concentration of millions of people in a confined area.

The infrastructure improvements aim to prevent issues like call drops, network congestion, slow speeds and service disruptions while delivering reliable connectivity. "A part of it, the Prayagraj district administration, Prayagraj Mela Authority and telecommunications department in collaboration with Central and state govts, has installed about 1,100 towers to boost coverage. Over 100 Ground-Based Masts (GBMs) and Cell-on-Wheels (COW) towers are being positioned at govt facilities and key public locations," he said.

Additional towers are being placed at transport hubs, car parks and residential areas to extend connectivity beyond the mela area. The infrastructure enhancement includes laying 160Km underground optical fibre cable to strengthen tower capacity. The high-traffic Sangam area will receive 80 COW towers and small cells.

The mela area and surrounding regions will be serviced by 150 small cells and a Distributed Antenna System (DAS)..
