Magpies out of FA Trophy after close encounter with Stags

Lee 51 DORCHESTER TOWN 0 TONY Lee came back to haunt his former manager as AFC Totton squeezed through to the next round of the cup with a narrow 1-0 defeat over Dorchester. The former Poole Town marksman found the target early in the second half in what was a close and cagey encounter at The Snows Stadium. Both sides saw red as former Dorchester man Tom Blair was sent off for a second bookable offence, whilst Shaq Gwengwe was also sent for an early bath not long after the Stags had taken the lead.

Dorchester pushed hard for an equaliser and were denied a late penalty after Marcus Daws appeared to be brought down in the box. Emotions spilled over after the game and Magpies boss Tom Killick was also show a red card after the final whistle as AFC Totton made it into the FA Trophy second round draw on Monday. Dorchester made one change from the midweek win over Plymouth as Luke Pardoe came in for Daws who was named as a substitute, Ieuan Turner continued alongside Tom Bragg in the heart of the Magpies defence with Will Spetch having not recovered from illness.



Totton started the game the better of the two sides with ex-Magpie Blair first to test Gerard Benfield with an early shot in the opening few minutes. Former Premier League striker Charlie Austin was next to try his luck but the ex-Southampton man saw his shot blocked. Wayne Robinson and Olaf Koszela had chances from outside the area but neither could find the target in what was a cagey first half from both sides.

After the break Totton would edge out in front thanks to Lee's back post header after meeting Blair's cross. Soon after Benfield denied the hosts a second goal as they came out the stronger of the two teams in the second half. Then, just as the game approached teh hour mark, Blair and Gwengwe received their marching orders as both teams went down to 10 men.

With 20 minutes to go Dorchester appealed for a penalty after the ball appeared to hit a Totton arm in the box, but the ref was not interested. The Magpies upped the pressure as they went in search of an equaliser with efforts going close from Bragg, Moore and Robinson. As the game entered the final few minutes of the 90, Daws was brought down in the area but despite the shouts from the Dorchester players and bench the ref gave nothing.

Nine minutes of added time followed but despite Dorchester throwing everything at Totton the hosts sat in and held on to their lead and put their name in the hat for the next round.
