The annual Married At First Sight couples retreat has generated plenty of shocking reality TV moments over the years, including Domenica Calarco’s glass smashing , Jack Dunkley’s ‘whale’ comment , and Alyssa Barmonde’s explosive row with Duncan James . While the getaway often results in brides and grooms screaming across a campfire, it also has the power to bring couples closer together as they spend time in a new environment. Jeff Gobbels , who has relatively stayed out of the drama this year, tells Yahoo Lifestyle this was exactly the case for him and his partner Rhi Disljenkovic .
Unlike some couples who struggled to spend 24/7 with their co-stars, Jeff says that he and Rhi thrived when they were outside of the “same four walls” of their Sydney accommodation. “I think it just strengthened our connection in our relationship being in the group dynamic. Because even from day one, we said to each other, ‘We're going to have each other's backs regardless of what happens’,” he reveals.
“We did that the whole way through and I was always there to support Rhi, and the couple's retreat was no different.” RELATED: Jeff adds that the retreat started “quite lovely” getting to spend quality time with the other participants, but it didn’t take long for things to change. “The retreat comes at the perfect time.
We all get to go away and spend every minute of every day together, which we never get to have, and it’s really fun and we have a good time,” he shares. “And then, obviously, with such big personalities like everyone has, the drama tends to follow. In the next couple of days, that definitely happens.
Friendships and relationships definitely get tested.” Lauren and Clint are set to become 'most hated participants ever' It was recently revealed that Lauren Hall and Clint Rice will soon be branded as one of the “most hated couples in the history of the show” when they find themselves going up against their co-star Jamie Marinos on the retreat. Yahoo Lifestyle understands the three participants are set to clash in upcoming scenes, and things worsen when it’s alleged that Lauren has been referring to Jamie and other female participants as “c**ts”.
The source also claims this is why Lauren does not have a public social media account that she’s handed over to production as she’s trying to “distance herself from the show while anticipating what’s to come”. SHOP: When asked about the rumours surrounding Lauren and Clint, Jeff remains coy and tells Yahoo Lifestyle that his relationship with the intruder couple on the retreat was simply “fine”. “I guess being in that group dynamic every single minute of every day, it tested a few people,” he remarks.
“Some people loved it and some people did not like it at all. So we'll see in the next couple of days who didn’t like it. “It’s gonna be a great couple of days for people to watch.
Plenty to unfold!” Want the latest lifestyle and entertainment news? Make sure you are following us on Facebook , Instagram and TikTok and don't forget to subscribe to our newsletter..
