Married At First Sight ’s Jacqui Burfoot and Clint Rice shocked fans over the weekend when they announced they had gotten engaged after just five months of dating. Clint popped the question at a reunion viewing party in front of 150 attendees and later confirmed the news on social media with photos of the custom-made ring , which is believed to be worth $30,000. The announcement has divided fans on social media, with some people praising the couple for finding true love on the reality show and others questioning if the relationship is a ‘publicity stunt’.
Jacqui and Clint have since opened up to Yahoo Lifestyle about their wedding plans, including when they want to tie the knot, which co-stars will be receiving an invite, and whether they’d make it a televised event. RELATED: Why did Clint propose to Jacqui at a MAFS viewing party? While Jacqui admits she always anticipated having a “private” and “quiet” proposal, she believes it was “genius” for Clint to do it at So Dramatic! ’s viewing party surrounded by fans who were “screaming with happiness”. “It was exactly what we needed after the season we had,” she reflects.
“So it was the best proposal I could have even imagined. The best time of my life, and I was just like, this is why I love him. This is why I love Clint, because he thinks of everything and he's so switched on, so smart.
” Clint adds that he began planning the proposal a month ago and originally wanted to do it the night before the event. “I was like, [I should organise] a nice little romantic dinner, go down by the harbour, and get down on one knee,” he details. “And then when we committed to the party, I was like, actually, this will be fun to share it with everyone who loves the show and is there to support the show.
Why not let everyone in on a front row seat to a big moment?” Did Jacqui know that Clint was going to propose? Jacqui shares that she and Clint began having conversations about getting married back in November - which is when they first started dating - but she had “no idea” when he was going to propose. “I kind of said to Clint, ‘Maybe we should get engaged later this year, maybe we should go to Bali. It would be nice once everything’s died down to start our next chapter’,” she recalls.
“It comes at a good time, because there are also times when it's stressful for our relationship, like the heaviness of people calling us fake and all that. And so to just have that reassurance from Clint like, ‘No, I love you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you, this is forever’, that’s just everything to me.” When will Jacqui and Clint get married? Clint reveals that he and Jacqui are planning to get married in January 2026, which is right before the next season of MAFS will premiere on TV.
“We’re looking at this coming summer, [but] we actually haven't had much time for ourselves to talk about it,” he shares. “I had a big build-up getting the ring sorted and actually organising it to happen at the party, and since then, we haven't slept much. We've been doing a lot of catch-ups and interviews, and it's been quite surreal.
” Where will Jacqui and Clint get married? The couple initially planned to elope, however, they’re now planning on celebrating with family and friends after their proposal was filled with so much love. “The more the merrier,” Jacqui remarks. “If you’re positive and you're celebrating us, that’s the kind of energy we want to be surrounded by and want to encourage.
We haven't worked out the aspects, but there are a lot of people who are invested in our relationship now, and we're so grateful for that, because we love our love.” “We’ve got to work out whether it's New Zealand or Sydney or Tassie,” Clint adds. “We probably need to talk more and strategise around how we can bring this to more people.
” Would Jacqui and Clint have a televised wedding on Channel Nine? Despite having a difficult experience on the reality show, Clint admits he would “definitely” be open to potentially having a televised wedding on Channel Nine. This would be similar to Jules Robinson and Cam Merchant , whose wedding aired on A Current Affair in November 2019. “Nothing's off the table.
I think we're always open to entertaining any discussion around what it is,” he says. “We always give people the benefit of the doubt and multiple chances, and we want to encourage the right behaviour,” Jacqui adds. “If people want to work with us, absolutely, we'll forgive them and we'll make it happen because at the end of the day, we keep everyone at arm's length.
“If you like us, you like us. If you don't, we don't care, we do not need to work with you. We are happy working with positive organisations and things, and if you don't want to work on this, that's fine.
” Which MAFS co-stars will be invited to the wedding? Jacqui reveals that they’ve already had one co-star reach out to not only congratulate them on the engagement, but offer to have a role in the wedding ceremony. “We've already had someone who is so keen to come. She wants to be there, she wants to be playing the hits - DJ Morena [Farina] ,” she shares.
“She's been our biggest supporter since day one, in the experiment and out of the experiment. Unwavering love for both of us. “She will absolutely be DJing, like, she will be DJing our engagement party.
She will be along for the ride. We love her, and she's such a positive person. We stand for everything she stands for, so that's great.
” SHOP: Clint adds that there aren’t many others from the cast that they’d consider inviting because they want “positive, good energy”. “We did think of inviting the whole cast and putting them on their own separate table and maybe just having that for their own entertainment,” he laughs.
