The long-awaited Hoover Ridge Outdoor Recreation Center project in Madison County is officially underway, with Phase 1A now approved and in motion. After an earlier pause due to bids coming in over budget, the county is back on track with a newly approved bid for the community project. On Tuesday evening, the Madison County Board of Supervisors took an important step toward realizing the vision of the Hoover Ridge Recreation Center by awarding a $767,000 contract to Madison-based William Walls Excavating Inc.

The foundational phase is set to include essential groundwork on roughly 5 acres of park land: grading, drainage and other infrastructure improvements to prepare the site for future developments. “This phase is crucial to building a space that will bring something for everyone — families, athletes, and outdoor enthusiasts alike," Jerry Carpenter, director of Madison County parks and recreation, said at Tuesday's meeting.

Future phases will include a range of amenities, such as: As construction moves forward, the community will begin to see the early stages of these features. In addition to the recent progress on Phase 1A, the project has received a significant boost thanks to local supporters. Madison County Parks and Recreation’s nonprofit arm, Support Hoover Ridge Inc.
, has secured a $1.4 million grant from the Walton and Ada Thompson Charitable Foundation. This grant will help fund Phase 2, which will focus on building a playground and splash pad.

Phase 2 will follow the completion of Phase 1B, which is targeted for completion in 2026.
