The incident, which began at 11:15 p.m., engulfed a mix of wooden and metal buildings used for residential and commercial purposes, marking one of the most severe fires in the area this year.

Divisional Officer II Desmond Ackah, Head of Public Relations at the GNFS, confirmed in an April 19 update that firefighters from the Madina Fire Station arrived within two minutes of the alert. Teams from Adenta, Legon, Abelemkpe, and GNFS headquarters provided additional support. Despite rapid response efforts, the blaze had already reached its peak intensity, requiring nearly three hours to fully contain.

Tragically, a Nigerian national identified as Beauty, believed to be in her early twenties, succumbed to the flames after becoming trapped. Her remains were transferred to the Madina Police for further investigation. Ackah noted that firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to over 200 nearby structures, including the Redco Flats residential complex, though the cause remains under investigation.

The destruction highlights ongoing challenges in urban fire management, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods where mixed-use structures and informal settlements are common. While Ghana’s fire service has emphasized improved response times, this incident underscores vulnerabilities in infrastructure and safety protocols.Past fires in similar areas have prompted calls for stricter enforcement of building codes and public awareness campaigns, though progress remains incremental.

Authorities urge residents to prioritize fire safety measures as investigations into the Redco Flats tragedy continue. News Ghana, Latest Updates and Breaking News of Ghana, News Ghana, https://newsghana.com.
