The body of Masud Kamal Tofazzal, who was lynched at Dhaka University, was buried next to the graves of his father, mother and brother at Patharghata in Borguna district on Friday (September 20). Tofazzal was laid to rest after his first namaz-e-janaza at his maternal grandfather's home at Shatkar in the upazila and second namaz-e-janaza at Charduani Talimul Quran Madrasa ground at village Taluk on Friday morning. After the funeral was over, the locals formed a human-chain demanding justice for those involved in Tofazzal's murder.

Several thousands people coming from farflung areas joined the funeral prayers of Tofazzal on Friday morning. At that time, they expressed strong resentment and hatred to the killers. Hundreds of people of Tofazzal's own village became surprised knowing such brutalities of the students of the country's highest seat of learning.

Immediately after the funeral prayers were over, the villagers formed a human-chain demanding the exemplary punishment of those who were involved in the lynching. Patharghata Upazila's former chairman Enamul Hossain who took part in the janaza, said: "I couldn't sleep two consecutive nights as the scene of having dinner by Tofazzal appear before my eyes. I myself paid for the medical treatment of Tofazzal.

After his brother's death, Tofazzal started showing abnormal behaviour. "He was not my relative, but I feel for him. It can't be thought that such a heinous act was committed at Dhaka University.

" Tofazzal's cousin Tania said, "I want justice into the murder of my brother. Killing my brother in a pre-planned way, they put blame of stealing mobile phone upon my brother. The mystery will be unearthed if a fair investigation into the murder is conducted.

" Mentally challenged Tofazzal was beaten to death on suspicion that he had stolen a mobile phone in the guest room of Fazlul Haque Muslim Hall of Dhaka University on September 18 last. On completion of all legal process, his body was sent to his village home at Char Doani under Patharghata upazila in Barguna district on Thursday (September 19) midnight. END/SZA.
