PSNI stock image (Image: PSNI Facebook) A video circulating on social media allegedly shows the terrifying moments before a man is assaulted in a Lurgan cemetery by a knife wielding assailant. The incident is reported to have taken place at around 7.10pm at St Colman's Cemetery in the Tarry Lane area of the town on Monday, October 14.
The injured man, who is in his 20s and was in a car, was approached by another man with a blunt object before he ended up suffering facial injuries. It has been alleged that the assailant was also carrying a knife or another type of bladed object. In the video the man in the backseat of the car can be heard ringing his mum on the phone and begging for her to call the police to the cemetery as he feared for his safety. The man then flees the vehicle and is chased by the other man before the video ends. A 19-year-old woman and 28-year-old man have since been arrested by police and bailed pending further enquiries.
Inspector Kerr said: “Officers responded to a report of an assault at approximately 7.10pm within the grounds of a cemetery in the Tarry Lane area of the town. “A man aged in his 20s was in a car when he was approached by an unknown man who attacked him with a blunt object to his face.
He was also carrying a knife or other type of blade. “The victim sustained serious facial injuries as a result of the assault. When he raised the alarm for help, the suspect made off on foot after also verbally threatening the victim.
“A 19-year-old woman and 28-year-old man were subsequently arrested on suspicion of a number of offences in connection with the investigation. They were later released on police bail, pending further enquiries. “Anyone with information about what happened or who witnessed the assault is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1629 14/10/24.
