Ludhiana: A six-year-old girl who was abducted from a labour quarter in the city's Sukhdev Nagar area on Monday has been safely rescued, with police apprehending the accused as he attempted to flee to Bihar. The child, Roshni, was reported missing by her mother, Ritu Devi, after she suddenly disappeared from their neighbourhood in the Daba area. Police later discovered she had been taken by a neighbour known to the family.
The accused, identified as Santosh — a native of Ara Bhojpur in Bihar — was tracked by the Daba police following the filing of a kidnapping complaint. He was intercepted by a police team before reaching his hometown, and the child was recovered safely from his custody. Inspector Gurdial Singh, station house officer of Daba police station, said an FIR (first-information report) had been registered against the accused under Section 140 (3) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) immediately after the complaint was filed.
"The accused had longstanding ties with the family and was considered trustworthy. The motive behind the abduction remains unclear," Singh said. Both the accused and the child are being brought back to Ludhiana.
Authorities say further questioning of the suspect will help uncover the reason for the crime. MSID:: 120313522 413 |.
