LSU women's basketball great Sylvia Fowles among inductees to Naismith Hall of Fame

LSU great Sylvia Fowles is headed to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

On Sunday, the hall announced that it will induct Fowles — a former LSU star who won two titles and an MVP award across a 15-year WNBA career — as part of its 2025 enshrinement class , a group also headlined by Sue Bird, Maya Moore, Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. Fowles starred at LSU from 2004-08.



The 6-foot-6 center is the Tigers' all-time leader in rebounds (1,570), blocks (321), career double-doubles (86), games played (144) and postseason games played (20). Her 2,234 career points rank fifth in LSU program history. The Tigers reached the Final Four in each season of her career.

In the WNBA, Fowles played for the Chicago Sky and the Minnesota Lynx. She was a two-time Finals MVP, a four-time defensive player of the year, and an eight-time all-league selection. She was named WNBA MVP in 2017, a season in which she averaged 18.

9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game while shooting 66% from the field. In November, Fowles was also inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

She's now following the same path that her former LSU teammate Seimone Augustus took in 2024, when she was enshrined into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, the Naismith Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Including Fowles, eight LSU players or coaches have now been inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame: Augustus, Pete Maravich, Bob Pettit, Shaquille O'Neal, Van Chancellor, Sue Gunter and Kim Mulkey. This year's Naismith enshrinement ceremony is scheduled for Sept.
