LS Cable & System announced on April 10 that it has secured a high-voltage power cable supply project worth approximately 200 billion won from the Singapore Power Authority. This project is part of a large-scale energy infrastructure initiative to transmit solar energy produced in Indonesia to Singapore. LS Cable & System will supply 230kV high-voltage cables for the underground transmission segment connecting to the substations, and the project will be executed using a turn-key approach that includes manufacturing, construction, and installation of the cables.
The Singapore government is promoting a policy to convert 6GW, or 25% of its total power supply, to renewable energy by 2035. With the decision to build the power grid solely using underground cables without constructing transmission towers, the demand for high-value underground cables has surged. “This contract win reflects the recognition of our technological prowess and reliability in a highly competitive global market," said an official from LS Cable & System.
"The supply of underground cables increases the likelihood of expanding our business to the submarine cable sector in the future.” LS Cable & System is also currently in negotiations for additional underground cable sections, which could amount to approximately 150 billion won. If finalized, the total contract value would rise to about 350 billion won.
For over a decade, LS Cable & System, in collaboration with LS Eco Energy, has maintained its position as the market leader in Singapore's high-voltage cable industry. LS Eco Energy is currently exploring a project in partnership with Vietnam's state-owned PetroVietnam Group to transmit offshore wind power from Vietnam to Singapore via submarine cables..
