" One Shot, Multiple Protections: Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has been one of the deadliest and contagious diseases to shake the world since 2020. Over the years, the death toll from COVID-19 has reached approximately 7,010,681, according to Worldometer. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) , COVID-19 is the second-deadliest disease, following Ischemic Heart Disease, in terms of death toll.

Researchers at the Scripps Research have revealed that “sugar coatings aren’t only for candies; they also help viruses, like the ones that cause COVID-19, hide from their hosts’ immune system.” The scientists demonstrated the low-sugar vaccine in hamsters and mice to strip off sugar molecules from an area of the coronavirus spike protein and mutate and created effective and plentiful antibodies to inactivate the virus.

More about the Vaccine Chi-Huey Wong, a chemistry professor at Scripps Research , presented results from his team’s studies at the ACS Spring 2025 Digital Meeting, a meeting of the American Chemical Society. Wong said, "For a lot of vaccines, like smallpox and tetanus, we only have to be immunized once. But we have to take a flu shot every year.
