Low-end severe storm risk for Central Texas on Saturday

Fog and drizzle are likely ahead of the front Saturday morning, and then a few storms can't be ruled out along the front as it sweeps through the KVUE area.

AUSTIN, Texas — It's been a fairly active past few days here in Central Texas, with several Pacific cold fronts sweeping through. Most of the severe weather has missed the KVUE area to the east, but we have still had a few severe weather issues here at home. Our next system moves in on Saturday with a very similar set up.

The main severe risk stays east, but we'll still need to keep an eye on any storms that form locally. At the moment, the Storm Prediction Center only includes a sliver of Milam County in the "marginal" - level 1 of 5 - severe weather risk for Saturday, but it's possible that could be expanded westward in future updates. So it's a very low-end severe threat locally, but we can't completely rule out a storm or two capable of hail, strong winds, or an isolated tornado especially in far eastern portions of the KVUE area.

Ahead of this cold front, widespread fog and drizzle will develop across Central Texas through Friday night into early Saturday morning. The fog could be dense in spots with visibility down to a quarter mile or less. Not everybody will see stormy weather in Central Texas Saturday, but just about everybody will have some mist and fog.

The front itself will be moving in by mid-morning, and along the front a broken line of showers and storms may develop over the I-35 corridor. Again, the odds of severe weather in Central Texas are low, but the window to monitor is 10 a.m.

to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The greatest likelihood of strong storms will be east and northeast of Austin for the late morning into the early afternoon as the front shifts into places like eastern Williamson, Milam, northern Bastrop and Lee counties. The front will clear out of the far eastern portions of the KVUE area by 1 p.m.

on Saturday, and behind the front the mid to late afternoon will be sunny, breezy and very warm. The KVUE Weather Team will continue to closely monitor this developing forecast. In the meantime, the extended forecast can be found below:.
