‘Love is Blind, Habibi,’ where Arab singles connected and committed to marriage but sight unseen, brought to viewers more than just relationship drama. While the social experiment seems to be faring well in the Middle East, also stealing the limelight was some of the troublesome behaviour of a few suitors. And, ah the internet, a place where nothing remains hidden, didn’t hold back from highlighting the issues including that of Chafic, the youngest male participant on the show.
Trouble followed him since pods, wherein he was branded a ‘playboy’ by female suitors. Later, Chafic also informed his partner Douia that he knew Nour, another female contestant from outside the show. He got into a heated argument with Simo for bringing up his and Nour’s past Instagram encounter in a conversation with Dounia.
And Chafic and Simo had to be literally separated for the fight to not turn violent. At the time, Chafic’s overreaction to the entire Nour fiasco made fans believe he liked Nour more than Dounia. In the later stages, his bachelor lifestyle and capacity to complain about Dounia and her mother’s closeness appeared problematic to fans.
They called him ‘toxic’, ‘player’, and a ‘man-child’ on social media.
