Lost Art Brewhouse in Walker, a growing presence in the craft beer scene, is celebrating the grand opening of its in-house kitchen. This expansion marks a shift from solely offering beer to now featuring popular American dishes like smash burgers and new monthly specials. According to MLive , co-owner Brad Lawrence emphasized the brewery's commitment to community, stating that the new kitchen allows them "to bring the same passion and creativity to the food we serve, making it the perfect complement to our craft beer selection.
" Since its opening in July 2020 during the pandemic, Lost Art Brewhouse, located at 3393 Remembrance Road NW, has become known for its range of beers, including lagers, IPAs, and ice cream beers. In the early stages, the brewery offered food through a food truck outside, a solution that co-owner Austin Sylvester noted was well-received. However, the challenges of operating the truck in winter and a desire for a more cohesive space led the brewery to establish a permanent kitchen inside the facility, as reported by WOOD TV .
The new kitchen will continue offering smash burgers, a food truck favorite, and will also introduce items like chili dogs and a variety of sauces to accompany the dishes. Lawrence, in a statement provided to WOOD TV , recognized the challenges facing the restaurant industry, including local closures due to rising costs, and outlined their approach to addressing these issues. Lost Art Brewhouse plans to expand its services by offering pickup catering for events such as office lunches, while also selling the larger of their two food trucks and retaining the smaller one for events.
Sylvester and Lawrence attribute their continued success during challenging times to the support from the Westside neighborhood. Sylvester told WZZM 13 , "You don't really understand the westside until you have a business and see all of the support around you like that. It's incredible," attributing the survival of Lost Art through the pandemic to the dedicated patronage of their customers.
Emphasizing a community-focused approach, Lawrence spoke about their business philosophy, "We have to focus on providing the best products we can at the best prices we can for the community that we care about," he stated. "It's the same thing that we had to deal with kind of during the pandemic. If you take care of your community and you care about that community, the love comes back for you, and they take care of you.
" The duo hopes the kitchen will turn the brewery into a family-friendly gathering space, reinforcing the sense of community that has been integral to their business approach. The grand opening next Tuesday will offer guests discounted food and the opportunity to explore the updated menu. With an emphasis on quality, freshness, and innovation, Lost Art Brewhouse is integrating brewing with American comfort food, aiming to continue building on the community support that has been essential to their success.
